## Probable cause

THE FAILURE OF THE PILOT TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT WHILE CORRECTING AN UNWANTED DEVIATION.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - landing gear,main gear strut - other
  - remedial action - excessive, pilot in command (cause)
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - ground loop/swerve - inadvertent, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll

## Analysis

THE PILOT SAID THE WHEEL LANDING WAS SMOOTH. DURING THE ROLL OUT, THE RIGHT LANDING GEAR STRUT LOWERED, WHICH DROPPED THE RIGHT WING, AND THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN A TURN TO THE RIGHT. THE PILOT SAID HE APPLIED LEFT AILERON AND RUDDER, AND, POWER TO CORRECT THE TURN. THE LEFT WING THEN CONTACTED THE GROUND, THE AIRCRAFT GROUND LOOPED, AND THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910902037349A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910902037349A), Sep 2, 1991: Namer AT6, Hayward, CA, Substantial damage. Ground looped on landing roll. Collapsing outside main gear. Blamed uneven olio on landing. No defects noted.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
