## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S DISREGARD OF THE AVAILABLE WIND INFORMATION. CONTRIBUTING TO THIS ACCIDENT WAS A HIGH TAIL WIND.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, taxi - to takeoff
  - weather condition - tailwind (contributing factor)
  - wind information - disregarded, pilot in command (cause)
- Nose over, taxi - to takeoff

## Analysis

AFTER RECEIVING THE AUTOMATIC TERMINAL INFORMATION SERVICE THAT REPORTED THE SURFACE WIND FROM THE NORTHEAST AT 28 KNOTS, THE PILOT NEVERTHELESS ELECTED TO TAXI DOWNWIND TOWARDS THE RUNWAY. UPON REACHING THE RUNWAY THE PILOT TURNED RIGHT TO ALIGN THE AIRPLANE WITH THE RUNWAY. DURING THE TURN THE WIND LIFTED THE EMPENNAGE CAUSING THE AIRPLANE TO NOSE OVER. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE WAS APPLYING THE FLIGHT CONTROLS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PILOT'S OPERATING HANDBOOK.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
