## Probable cause

THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER FOR UNDETERMINED REASONS. CONTRIBUTING TO THIS ACCIDENT WAS THE ROUGH TERRAIN.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power, takeoff - initial climb
  - reason for occurrence undetermined
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- Nose over, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - rough/uneven (cause)

## Analysis

THE ENGINE FAILED AS THE PILOT MADE HIS CROSSWIND TURN AFTER TAKEOFF. THE PILOT INITIATED A FORCED LANDING INTO A ROUGH/UNEVEN DRY RIVER BED. THE AIRCRAFT NOSED OVER ON ITS BACK DURING THE LANDING ROLL. THE CAUSE OF THE ENGINE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920521015559A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920521015559A), May 21, 1992: Airtrc AT301, New Cuyama, CA, Substantial damage. Reported engine quit on crosswind leg after takeoff. Force landed in dry river bed and nosed over.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
