## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S INADEQUATE WEATHER EVALUATION OF THE WIND ON THE LAKE AND HIS DELAY IN LIFT-OFF. CONTRIBUTING TO THE ACCIDENT WAS THE ROUGH WATER THAT EXISTED ON THE UNSHELTERED SECTION OF THE LAKE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, takeoff - roll/run
  - terrain condition - water,rough (contributing factor)
  - weather evaluation - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - wind information - not obtained, pilot in command (cause)

## Analysis

THE PILOT STARTED THE WATER TAKEOFF RUN FROM A SHELTERED COVE. THE AIRCRAFT COLLIDED WITH A WAVE AS IT EXITED THE COVE INTO OPEN WATER.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920621021479A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920621021479A), Jun 21, 1992: Conaer LA4200, Clearlake, CA, Substantial damage. Began takeoff in shelter of cover. Right wing hit a wave as he exited cove into rough unsheltered water at liftoff.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
