## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S IMPROPER FLARE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - flare - improper, pilot in command (cause)

## Analysis

DURING THE INITIAL LANDING THE PILOT FAILED TO FLARE THE AIRPLANE AND IT SUSTAINED A HARD LANDING. THE AIRPLANE BEGAN TO BOUNCE AND THE PILOT ELECTED TO GO-AROUND. THE PILOT REENTERED THE TRAFFIC PATTERN AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. SUBSEQUENT EXAMINATION OF THE AIRPLANE DISCLOSED THAT IT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL STRUCTURAL DAMAGE.

- [Accident 19920708024939A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920708024939A), Jul 8, 1992: Cessna 210, Truckee, CA, Substantial damage. Failed to flare on landing bounced and porpoised. Went around and same result but able to stop on runway.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
