## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN ADEQUATE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE HELICOPTER AND THE TERRAIN WHILE HOVER TAXING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with terrain/water, taxi - aerial
  - terrain condition - dirt bank/rising embankment
  - clearance - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- Roll over, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE PILOT WAS HOVER TAXIING IN A DRY STREAM BED IN A CANYON. THE HELICOPTER'S RIGHT SKID CAUGHT ON THE STREAM BANK AS THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO INCREASE HIS ALTITUDE. THE HELICOPTER ROLLED OVER DURING THE SUBSEQUENT UNCONTROLLED DESCENT.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920711024959A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920711024959A), Jul 11, 1992: Robsin R22BETA, Paso Robles, CA, Substantial damage. During hover taxi over dry stream bed a skid struck dirt bank causing dynamic rollover.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
