## Probable cause

THE PILOT FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - flare/touchdown
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - flare/touchdown
  - terrain condition - hidden obstruction(s) (contributing factor)

## Analysis

DURING THE LANDING FLARE ON THE 50-FT WIDE RUNWAY THE AIRPLANE BEGAN TO DRIFT LEFT. THE PILOT OVERCORRECTED THIS CONDITION AND THE AIRPLANE EXITED THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND COLLIDED WITH AN EMBEDDED ROCK.

- [Accident 19920718032069A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920718032069A), Jul 18, 1992: Cessna 182Q, Montague, CA, Substantial damage. Lost directional control on landing roll. Ran off runway striking an embedded rock.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
