## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S IMPROPER USE OF THE BRAKES. CONTRIBUTING TO THIS ACCIDENT WAS THE WORN BRAKE PEDALS.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - misc eqpt/furnishings - worn (contributing factor)
  - brakes(normal) - improper use of, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - object - airport facility

## Analysis

THE PILOT WAS COMPLETING THE FOURTH FULL STOP LANDING. DURING THE LANDING ROLL OUT THE PILOT'S RIGHT FOOT SLIPPED OFF THE RUDDER PEDAL AND BECAME LODGED BETWEEN THE PEDALS. THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO EXTRICATE HIS FOOT FROM THE PEDALS AND THE AIRPLANE VEERED TO THE LEFT AND COLLIDED WITH A HANGAR. THE AIRCRAFT EXAMINATION DISCLOSED THAT BOTH PILOT SIDE RUDDER PEDALS WERE EXTREMELY SMOOTH AND SLIPPERY.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19921109045899A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19921109045899A), Nov 9, 1992: Cessna 182P, Hawthorne, CA, Substantial damage. Veered off runway on takeoff roll. Collided with a hangar. Pilot reported his foot slipped off rudder and jammed.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
