## Probable cause

THE PILOT POOR PREFLIGHT PLANNING AND PREPARATION. THE ROAD SIGN WAS A FACTOR RELATING TO THIS ACCIDENT.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, takeoff - initial climb
  - object - sign (contributing factor)
  - preflight planning/preparation - poor, pilot in command (cause)
- Hard landing, landing
  - landing gear - collapsed

## Analysis

THE AERIAL APPLICATION FLIGHT DEPARTED FROM A PRIVATELY OWNED ROAD. BEFORE DEPARTING ON THE FLIGHT AN UNIDENTIFIED PICKUP TRUCK STOPPED ON THE ROAD AND DID NOT MOVE. THE PILOT ELECTED TO TAKEOFF AWAY FROM THE TRUCK. THE AIRPLANE'S LEFT WING STRUCK A SIGN. THE AIRPLANE SETTLED TO THE GROUND CAUSING ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WING AND MAIN LANDING GEAR.
