## Probable cause

THE FAILURE OF THE INTAKE VALVE. THE SOFT TERRAIN CONTRIBUTED TO THIS ACCIDENT.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(partial) - mech failure/malf, cruise
  - engine assembly,valve,intake - fractured (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- Nose over, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - soft (contributing factor)

## Analysis

SHORTLY AFTER DEPARTING A PRIVATELY OWNED AIRSTRIP THE AIRPLANE EXPERIENCED A ROUGH RUNNING ENGINE FOLLOWED BY A LOSS OF POWER. THE PILOT EXECUTED A LANDING IN A CULTIVATED OPEN FIELD. THE AIRPLANE NOSED OVER WHEN THE MAIN WHEELS DUG INTO THE SOFT TERRAIN. EXAMINATION OF THE ENGINE DISCLOSED THAT AN INTAKE VALVE FRACTURED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930212002279A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930212002279A), Feb 12, 1993: Boeing A75N1, Hughson, CA, Substantial damage. Lost power. Nosed over on forced landing. Intake valve stem had fractured.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
