## Probable cause

THE INSTRUCTOR'S INADEQUATE BOUNCED LANDING RECOVERY AND AIRSPEED MANAGEMENT DURING THE ATTEMPTED GO AROUND, WHICH LED TO AN INADVERTENT STALL AND THE INSTRUCTOR'S INADEQUATE SUPERVISION OF THE FLIGHT. A FACTOR IN THE ACCIDENT WAS THE INSTRUCTOR'S LOW TOTAL TIME AS A FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, landing - flare/touchdown
  - flare - misjudged, dual student
  - supervision - inadequate, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)
  - lack of total experience in type operation, pilot in command(cfi) (contributing factor)
  - recovery from bounced landing - inadequate, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)
  - airspeed - inadequate, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)
  - stall/mush - inadvertent, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE INSTRUCTOR SAID THE STUDENT WAS MAKING A PLANNED FULL STOP LANDING ON RUNWAY 33 AND THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED BADLY. THE INSTRUCTOR SAID HE TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT, ADDED POWER, RETRACTED THE FLAPS AND ATTEMPTED TO INITIATE A GO AROUND. GROUND WITNESSES OBSERVED THE AIRCRAFT TRAVEL ABOUT 3,000 FEET DOWN THE RUNWAY IN GROUND EFFECT WHILE DRIFTING TO THE LEFT WITH THE WINGS ROCKING BACK AND FORTH. THE AIRCRAFT THEN DESCENDED AND HIT THE GROUND ON THE RIGHT WIND AND NOSE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930415009399A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930415009399A), Apr 15, 1993: Cessna 150K, Boulder City, NV, Substantial damage. Student bounced landing. CFI took over. Began nose high wobbly go around. Descended. Hit ground with wing and nose.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
