## Probable cause

THE STUDENT PILOT'S MISJUDGING THE LANDING FLARE ALTITUDE AND HIS IMPROPER RECOVERY FROM A BOUNCED LANDING. FACTORS RELATING TO THIS ACCIDENT ARE THE STUDENT PILOT'S LACK OF TOTAL EXPERIENCE AND FAILURE TO RAISE THE FLAPS.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, takeoff - initial climb
  - flare - improper, pilot in command (cause)
  - recovery from bounced landing - improper, pilot in command (cause)
  - lack of total experience, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - raising of flaps - not performed, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled
  - terrain condition - runway

## Analysis

THE AIRPLANE BOUNCED ON LANDING WITH THE FLAPS FULLY EXTENDED. THE STUDENT PILOT ADDED FULL POWER AND ATTEMPTED TO GO AROUND, BUT FAILED TO RETRACT THE FLAPS. THE AIRPLANE STALLED AND CRASHED IN A LEFT WING, NOSE DOWN ATTITUDE. THE STUDENT PILOT REPORTED THAT A GUST OF WIND PRECIPITATED THE BOUNCED LANDING. A COMMERCIAL PILOT WITNESS REPORTED THAT THE WINDS WERE STRAIGHT DOWN THE RUNWAY AT ABOUT 8 KNOTS.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
