## Analysis

THE PILOT WAS COMPLETING A VISUAL FLIGHT RULES PERSONAL FLIGHT. THE PILOT FAILED TO MAKE THE INITIAL LANDING AND EXECUTED A GO-AROUND. ON THE SECOND LANDING, THE AIRPLANE LANDED LONG, OVERRAN THE RUNWAY AND WENT DOWN AN EMBANKMENT.

## Factual narrative

On October 15, 1994, at 1300 hours Pacific daylight time, a Cessna 177RG, N7577V, overran the end of the runway at a privately owned airstrip, Clark Ranch, near Laytonville, California. The pilot was completing a visual flight rules personal flight. The airplane, registered to and operated by the pilot, sustained substantial damage. Neither the certificated private pilot nor his passenger was injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed. The flight originated at Smith Ranch Airport, San Rafael, California, at 1130 hours.

The pilot said in the aircraft accident report that he executed a go-around on the initial approach to the airport. He said that on the second landing he could not stop the airplane and it overran the end of the runway.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19941015034969A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19941015034969A), Oct 15, 1994: Cessna 177RG, Laytonville, CA, Substantial damage. Too high initial landing. Went around. Second landing. Landed long overran runway down embankment.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
