## Probable cause

The delay by the pilot-in-command to recover from a bounced landing resulting in a hard landing and subsequent collapse of the nose and left main landing gears.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - recovery from bounced landing - delayed, pilot in command (cause)

## Analysis

After departure the flight proceeded to the destination airport and the pilot entered a standard downwind traffic pattern for runway 5. The pilot later reported that while on final approach he encountered a gust of wind. The airplane ballooned, and he heard the stall warning horn. The airplane touched down on the main landing gear then bounced. He added power in an effort to perform a go-around but did not achieve a positive rate of climb. The airplane touched down on the main landing gear, bounced, then landed again causing collapse of the nose landing gear. The airplane spun around and the left main landing gear collapsed.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 20070524012189A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/20070524012189A), May 24, 2007: Mooney M20R, Pinehurst/Sout, NC, Substantial damage. (-23) Pilot stated he was coming in for a landing, he was high, hit gust of wind, tried to go around but it was too late, he bounced on runway and gear…

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
