THE ACFT ROLLED OVER AND CRASHED DURING AN ATTEMPTED DOWNWIND RUNNING TAKEOFF. THE ACFT WAS DESTROYED BY IMPACT FORCES AND FIRE. THE PILOT AND 2 PASSENGERS WERE NOT INJURED. A WITNESS ON THE GROUND AND ONE OF THE PASSENGERS WHO IS AN A&P MECHANIC STATED THAT THE PILOT HOVER-TAXIED DOWNWIND AND ALL OWED THE ACFT TO SETTLE TO THE GROUND. HE THEN ATTEMPTED THE DOWNWIND RUNNING TAKEOFF. THE PILOT SAID 'I SHOULD NOT HAVE ATTEMPTED TO TAKEOFF WITH BOTH PASSENGERS, AGAIN BUT LETONE OFF.' HE STATED HE RAN OUT OF POWER AND PEDAL.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19830507018149A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19830507018149A), May 7, 1983: Enstrm F28A, Brookville, FL, Destroyed. Tried to take off downwind, hot day. Unable to climb. Made run on landing. Caught a skid and rolled over.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
