## Analysis

AS THE PLT WAS APPROACHING TO LAND IN THE OPEN OCEAN NEAR KEY LARGO, FL, A BIG WAVE APPEARED. THE PLT PULLED THE NOSE OF THE ACFT UP & ADDED POWER. HOWEVER, THE ACFT IMPACTED THE WAVE CREST & WAS CATIPULTED UPWARD IN A NOSE HIGH ATTITUDE. IT THEN CAME DOWN ON THE LEFT WING WHICH SEPARATED FROM THE ACFT. THE ACFT SANK IN 12 FT OF WATER AFTER FLOATING ABOUT 35 MINUTES. THE PLT REPORTED THAT THE WIND SEEMED TO BE LIGHT & VARIABLE. HE ESTIMATED THAT THE WAVES WERE 1 TO 1-1/2 FT HIGH, EXCEPT FOR THE WAVE OR SWELL THAT THE ACFT HIT.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19840614041179A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19840614041179A), Jun 14, 1984: Conaer LA4250, Key Largo, FL, Destroyed. Aircraft hit a wave swell during flare for landing and pitched up to a nose high attitude causing stall and crash.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
