## Probable cause

THE PILOT IN COMMAND'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN AN ADEQUATE VISUAL LOOK-OUT DUE TO HIS SELF IMPOSED PRESSURE OF TAXIING, COMPLETING COCKPIT CHECKLISTS AND OBTAINING A CLEARANCE AT THE SAME TIME.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- On ground/water collision with object, taxi - to takeoff
  - object - aircraft moving on ground
  - visual lookout - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - diverted attention, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - self-induced pressure, pilot in command (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE PILOT IN COMMAND OF THE COMMUTER AIRPLANE WAS ACCOMPLISHING THE COCKPIT CHECKLISTS WHILE TAXIING FOR TAKEOFF AND FAILED TO OBSERVE ANOTHER TAXIING AIRPLANE AND AN ON-GROUND COLLISION OCCURED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900416008991A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900416008991A), Apr 16, 1990: Emb EMB110P1, Ft Lauderdale, FL, Substantial damage. Collided at a taxiway intersection with N14222, while taxiing for takeoff. Preoccupied with cockpit duties.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
