## Probable cause

DELAMINATION OF A PORTION OF ONE OF THE WOODEN PROPELLER BLADES AT A KNOT, RESULTING IN SEVERE VIBRATION AND NECESSITATING A FORCED LANDING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Airframe/component/system failure/malfunction, cruise - normal
  - propeller system/accessories,blade - delamination (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
  - terrain condition - none suitable
- Nose over, landing - roll

## Analysis

THE PLT STATED THAT DURING CRUISE FLT, HE FELT A SEVERE VIBRATION FROM THE REAR OF THE ACFT (THE ACFT WAS A PUSHER TYPE). HE SECURED THE ENG. AFTER TOUCHDOWN IN A FIELD DURING THE FORCED LANDING, THE ACFT ROLLED INVERTED & CAME TO REST. EXAM OF THE ACFT REVEALED THAT A PORTION OF ONE PROPELLER BLADE DELAMINATED AT A KNOT.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900411011939A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900411011939A), Apr 11, 1990: Amtr VELOCITY, Lakeland, FL, Substantial damage. Vibration in rear engine. Nosed over landing in a field to check it out. Prop blade had delaminated at a knot.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
