## Probable cause

THE STUDENT PILOT LANDED LONG AND DELAYED APPLYING POWER DURING THE GROUND ROLL OF THE TOUCH-AND-GO LANDING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Overrun, landing - roll
  - proper touchdown point - not attained, pilot in command (cause)
  - throttle/power control - delayed, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - abort - performed, pilot in command
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - ditch

## Analysis

THE STUDENT PLT STATED THAT SHE LANDED LONG DURING THE SECOND TOUCH-&-GO LANDING, WAS SLOW TO ADVANCE THE THROTTLE. AFTER ROTATION, SHE THOUGHT THE ACFT WOULD NOT CLEAR OBSTACLES AHEAD & ABORTED THE TAKEOFF. THE ACFT ENTERED GROUND EFFECT & FLOATED, & SHE APPLIED FWD ELEVATOR. THE ACFT TOUCHED DOWN, BOUNCED, TOUCHED DOWN AGAIN, THEN TRAVELLED OFF THE RWY COLLIDING WITH A DITCH.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900524017359A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900524017359A), May 24, 1990: Cessna 152, Cleveland, MS, Substantial damage. Landed long on touch and go. Delayed go around then aborted and ran off end of runway colliding with a ditch.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
