## Probable cause

THE PILOT FAILED TO PROPERTY ALIGN THE AIRCRAFT WITH THE RUNWAY. A FACTOR IN THE ACCIDENT WAS THE STRONG, GUSTY CROSSWIND.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Main gear collapsed, landing - roll
  - compensation for wind conditions - improper, pilot in command (cause)
  - proper alignment - not attained, pilot in command (cause)
  - landing gear,main gear - overload

## Analysis

THE PLT STATED THAT WHILE LANDING ON RWY 9 WITH A WIND FROM THE SOUTH AT 16 KTS WITH GUSTS TO 22, THE LT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED. THE ACFT VEERED TO THE LEFT & CAME T0 REST OFF THE RWY. ACCORDING TO AN FAA INSPECTOR, SEVERAL WITNESSES STATED THAT THE LONGITUDINAL AXIS OF THE ACFT WAS NOT ALIGNED WITH THE RWY AT THE MOMENT OF TOUCHDOWN. HE ALSO STATED THAT AFTER THE ACFT TRAVELLED OFF THE RWY, THE RT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED AFTER COLLIDING WITH A MOUND OF DIRT. EXAM OF THE LT MAIN LANDING GEAR REVEALED THAT IT FAILED DUE TO OVERLOAD.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900613056479A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900613056479A), Jun 13, 1990: Beech D95A, Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, Substantial damage. Landed in a crab due to strong crosswind, veered off runway, struck a dirt mound which collapsed right main gear.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
