## Probable cause

ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO FAILURE OF THE ENGINE DRIVEN FUEL PUMP SHAFT DUE TO UNDETERMINED REASONS.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - mech failure/malf, maneuvering - turn to reverse direction
  - fuel system,pump - failure,total (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- In flight collision with terrain/water, landing - flare/touchdown

## Analysis

WHILE MANEUVERING DURING AN AERIAL APPLICATION FLT, THE ENG QUIT, DUE TO THE TYPE OF CHEMICAL ABOARD, THE PLT WAS UNABLE TO DUMP IT & LANDED THE ACFT IN A FIELD. THE ACFT CAUGHT FIRE & WAS DESROYED. EXAM OF THE ENG REVEALED THAT THE ENG DRIVEN FUEL PUMP SHAFT FAILED. METALLURGICAL EXAM REVEALED THAT IT FAILED DUE TO OVERLOAD. ACCORDING TO THE OPERATOR, THE ENG WAS OVERHAULED ABOUT 98 HRS EARLIER BUT THE ENG DRIVEN FUEL PUMP WAS NOT. NO DETERMINATION COULD BE MADE AS TO THE TOTAL TIME ON THE PUMP OR THE TIME SINCE MAJOR OVERHAUL.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
