## Probable cause

PARTIAL LOSS OF ENGINE POWER AFTER TAKEOFF DUE TO UNDETERMINED REASONS RESULTING IN THE EMERGENCY DESCENT AND IN-FLIGHT COLLISION WITH THE POWER LINE THEN THE GROUND.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power, takeoff - initial climb
  - reason for occurrence undetermined (cause)
- In flight collision with object, descent - emergency
  - object - wire,static
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled
  - terrain condition - ground

## Analysis

THE PLT STATED THAT THE ENG RUN-UP PRIOR TO DEPARTURE WAS NORMAL. AFTER TAKEOFF WITH ABOUT 40 GALS OF FUEL ABOARD AT AN ALT OF ABOUT 300 FT AGL, THE ENG LOST POWER. ATTEMPTS TO CORRECT WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. DURING THE DESCENT, THE ACFT COLLIDED WITH A POWER LINE THEN THE GROUND. EXAM OF THE ACFT REVEALED NO DETERMINATION COULD BE MADE AS TO THE REASON FOR THE LOSS OF ENG POWER.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910127001139A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910127001139A), Jan 27, 1991: Piper PA28140, Titusville, FL, Substantial damage. Engine quit on climbout. Struck power line on forced landing. Cause power loss unknown.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
