## Probable cause

LOSS OF ENGINE POWER DUE TO A CRACKED CYLINDER AND THE PILOT'S INADVERTENT STALL.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(partial) - mech failure/malf, maneuvering - aerial application
  - engine assembly,cylinder - cracked (contributing factor)
- Loss of control - in flight, descent - emergency
  - stall/mush - inadvertent, pilot in command (cause)
- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
- Nose over, landing - flare/touchdown

## Analysis

DURING A SPRAY PASS THE NO. 1 CYL CRACKED ACROSS THE TOP FROM ONE SPARK PLUG HOLE TO THE OTHER. THE ENG SUBSEQUENTLY QUIT. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO CLEAR TREES, THE ACFT STALLED, LANDED HARD IN A FIELD, THEN CAME TO REST INVERTED. THE ENG WAS OVERHAULED 1,050 HRS EARLIER.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910614021929A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910614021929A), Jun 14, 1991: Airtrc AT301, Greenville, MS, Substantial damage. Blew a cylinder during a spray run. Flipped inverted on forced landing. NR1 cylinder cracked between spark plugs.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
