## Probable cause

THE FAILURE OF THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND TO MAINTAIN AN ADEQUATE VISUAL LOOKOUT WHICH CAUSED HIM TO FLY THE AIRPLANE INTO WIRES.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, approach - vfr pattern - final approach
  - object - wire,transmission
  - visual lookout - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS PRACTICING VISUAL APPROACHES TO AN ABANDONED ROAD. HE DID NOT SEE WIRES ABOUT 50 FT. ABOVE THE RAOD AND FLEW INTO THEM.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910705029699A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910705029699A), Jul 5, 1991: Cessna 172N, Rotonda West, FL, Substantial damage. Struck wires and crashed while practicing approaches to a abandoned road.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
