## Probable cause

INADEQUATE PREFLIGHT BRIEFING AND INADVERTENT STALL MUSH DURING NORMAL CRUISE FLIGHT AFTER ENCOUNTERING TURBULENCE NEAR THE DESTINATION.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight encounter with weather, cruise - normal
  - preflight briefing service - information insufficient, pilot in command (cause)
  - weather condition - turbulence
- Loss of control - in flight, cruise - normal
  - stall/mush - inadvertent, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with object, descent - uncontrolled
  - object - tree(s)

## Analysis

THE PLT STATED THAT AFTER DESCENDING BELOW A LAYER OF CLOUDS NEAR THE REFUELING DESTINATION, THE TURBULENCE WAS EXTREME. HE LOST CONTROL OF THE ACFT WHICH COLLIDED WITH TREES. HE FURTHER STATED THAT BEFORE DEPARTURE HE CHECKED THE WX VIA THE TELEVISION BUT DID NOT OBTAIN A WX BRIEFING GIVEN BY THE FAA FSS.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910714027179A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910714027179A), Jul 14, 1991: Amtrgr GN1AIRCAMPER, Cross City, FL, Substantial damage. Encountered lowering clouds and severe turbulence for an ultralite. Lost control and collided with trees.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
