## Probable cause

THE PILOT IN COMMAND'S POOR IN FLIGHT DECISION PLANNING, AND INADVERTENT STALL MUSH WHILE ON APPROACH TO LAND. CONTRIBUTING TO THE ACCIDENT WAS HIS LACK OF TOTAL EXPERIENCE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, approach - vfr pattern - base leg/base to final
  - in-flight planning/decision - poor, pilot in command (cause)
  - lack of total experience, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - stall/mush - inadvertent, pilot in command (cause)
- Hard landing, descent - uncontrolled
- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - object - fence

## Analysis

THE GLIDER PLT REALIZED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO RETURN TO THE INTENDED LANDING STRIP AND EXECUTED A CLOSE IN APCH TO A FIELD WITH TELEPHONE WIRES LOCATED ON THE APCH END. WHILE TURNING FINAL, HE FELT THE GLIDER STALL. HE INITIATED A RECOVERY BUT THE GLIDER IMPACTED THE GROUND HARD IN A WINGS LEVEL, SLIGHT NOSE LOW ATTITUDE. THE GLIDER SLID INTO A FENCE AND CAME TO REST.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910921046269A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910921046269A), Sep 21, 1991: Cntrar 101ACENTR, Groveland, FL, Substantial damage. Ran out of lift to return to glider port. Stalled on short final landing in a field. Then slid into a fence.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
