## Probable cause

POOR IN-FLIGHT PLANNING/DECISION BY THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND RESULTING IN THE OFF AIRPORT LANDING. CONTRIBUTING TO THE ACCIDENT WAS HIS LACK OF TOTAL EXPERIENCE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, maneuvering - turn to landing area (emergency)
  - in-flight planning/decision - poor, pilot in command (cause)
  - lack of total experience, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - object - fence
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled
  - terrain condition - ground

## Analysis

THE GLIDER WAS TOWED ALOFT & AFTER MANEUVERING, THE PLT WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE GLIDEPORT. HE LOCATED A SUITABLE FIELD FOR LANDING BUT WAS HIGH ON FINAL APCH. WHILE TURNING TO LAND IN ANOTHER FIELD, THE LT WING TIP WHEEL COLLIDED WITH A FENCE. THE GLIDER THEN COLLIDED WITH THE GROUND & CAME TO REST.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19911114052069A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19911114052069A), Nov 14, 1991: Scwzer SGS233A, Groveland, FL, Substantial damage. Became lost after glider tow release. Tried to land open field but overshot and struck a tree trying for another.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
