## Probable cause

FAILURE OF THE PILOT TO ATTAIN THE PROPER AIRSPEED (VHC) BEFORE ROTATION WHICH RESULTED IN FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL FOLLOWING TOTAL LOSS OF ENGINE POWER FROM THE RIGHT ENGINE. CONTRIBUTING TO THE ACCIDENT WAS FAILURE OF THE RIGHT ENGINE, ENGINE DRIVEN FUEL PUMP.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - mech failure/malf, takeoff - initial climb
  - 1 engine
  - fuel system,pump - failure,total (contributing factor)
- Loss of control - in flight, takeoff - initial climb
  - airspeed(vmc) - not attained, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - aborted takeoff - performed, pilot in command
- Complete gear collapsed, landing - roll
  - landing gear - overload

## Analysis

SHORTLY AFTER ROTATION, THE ACFT YAWED TO THE RT. THE PLT ABORTED THE TAKEOFF & THE ACFT TOUCHED DOWN IN THE GRASS ADJACENT TO THE RWY. DURING THE LANDING ROLL, THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED. EXAM OF THE RT ENG REVEALED THAT THE ENG DRIVEN FUEL PUMP SHAFT WAS SHEARED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920216002979A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920216002979A), Feb 16, 1992: Beech E55, Tallahassee, FL, Substantial damage. Lost right engine on liftoff. Yawed to right landed on grass. Collapsed gear. Engine driven fuel pump shaft failed.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
