## Probable cause

DELAY BY THE CFI TO TAKE REMEDIAL ACTION. CONTRIBUTING TO THE ACCIDENT WAS THE STUDENTS PREMATURE FLARE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - flare - delayed, dual student (contributing factor)
  - lack of total experience in type of aircraft, dual student (contributing factor)
  - remedial action - delayed, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)
- Roll over, landing - flare/touchdown

## Analysis

WHILE PRACTICING 180 DEGREE AUTOROTATIVE LANDINGS WITH A POWER RECOVERY TO A HOVER, THE STUDENT DIDN'T FLARE AT THE PREDETERMINED ALTITUDE. THE CFI TOOK CONTROL BUT THE DESCENT CONTINUED UNTIL THE HELICOPTER IMPACTED THE GROUND, BOUNCED, THEN TOUCHED DOWN & ROLLED OVER.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920517053519A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920517053519A), May 17, 1992: Robsin R22BETA, Ft Lauderdale, FL, Substantial damage. During practice autorotations to flare student failed to timely use cyclic.CFI too late to prevent hard landing.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
