## Probable cause

THE DELAYED REMEDIAL ACTION BY THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND (CFI) TO THE STUDENT'S PUSHING THE CONTROL YOKE FORWARD ON SHORT FINAL APPROACH.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Abrupt maneuver, landing - flare/touchdown
  - elevator - improper use of, dual student (contributing factor)
- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - remedial action - delayed, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)

## Analysis

THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT NOTED THAT WHILE ON SHORT FINAL JUST PRIOR TO THE LANDING FLARE THE STUDENT PILOT PUSHED FORWARD ON THE CONTROL YOKE. HE STATED HE WAS LATE WITH A CORRECTIVE ACTION AND THE AIRPLANE LANDED HARD AND THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED.

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920517015159A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920517015159A), May 17, 1992: Cessna 172P, Daytona Beach, FL, Substantial damage. Student pushed yoke forward on final approach. Nosed into ground short of runway. CFI failed to correct situation.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
