## Probable cause

FAILURE OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM DUE TO INSTALLATION OF A BOGUS PART BY AN UNKNOWN PERSON. DIRECTIONAL CONTROL BY THE PILOT IN COMMAND WAS NOT POSSIBLE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Airframe/component/system failure/malfunction, landing - roll
  - landing gear, normal brake system - unapproved part (cause)
  - maintenance,modification - improper, unknown (cause)
- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - directional control - not possible, pilot in command
- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - object - pole

## Analysis

DURING THE LANDING ROLL WITH THE BRAKES APPLIED, THE ACFT VEERED OFF THE LT SIDE OF THE GRASS AIRSTRIP & COLLIDED WITH A TELEPHONE POLE. EXAM OF THE ACFT REVEALED THAT THE RT BRAKE LINE WHICH WAS ATTACHED TO THE PARKING BRAKE ASSY WAS SEPARATED. EXAM OF THE LINE REVEALED THAT A BOGUS PART WAS INSTALLED RESULTING IN THE SEPARATION. NO DETERMINATION COULD BE MADE WHO PERFORMED THE IMPROPER REPAIR.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920910039179A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920910039179A), Sep 10, 1992: Airtrc AT301, Satartia, MS, Substantial damage. Lost right brake on landing. Veered off runway. Wing hit pole. Right brake line separated. Incorrect fitting used.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
