## Probable cause

THE PILOT IN COMMAND'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL WHILE MAKING A GO AROUND FOLLOWING A BOUNCED LANDING RESULTING IN A COLLISION WITH TREES.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - flare - improper, pilot in command
- In flight collision with object, landing - aborted
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - object - tree(s)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled
  - terrain condition - ground

## Analysis

PILOT STATED AIRCRAFT DROPPED FROM ABOUT 3 FEET WHILE FLARING TO LAND. THE AIRCRAFT THEN BOUNCED UP AND TURNED SIDEWAYS PRIOR TO TOUCHING DOWN AGAIN. THE AIRCRAFT WAS HEADED FOR TREES AND THE PILOT INITIATED A GO AROUND. AS HE TURNED TO AVOID COCONUT TREES THE RIGHT WING CONTACTED A MANGROVE TREE BRANCH, THE AIRCRAFT SPUN TO THE RIGHT AND IMPACTED THE GROUND.

## Other investigations on N4305C (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Probable cause: the pilots failure to maintain directional control during climb, which resulted in the airplane drifting off course and impacting with trees.
