## Probable cause

THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND'S IMPROPER FLARE AND RECOVERY FROM A BOUNCED LANDING, RESULTING IN A HARD LANDING WHICH CAUSED LANDING GEAR FAILURE. CONTRIBUTING TO THE ACCIDENT WAS THE PILOT'S LACK OF TOTAL FLIGHT TIME AND FLIGHT TIME IN THE MAKE AND MODEL.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - airspeed - excessive, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - flare - improper, pilot in command (cause)
  - lack of total experience in type of aircraft, pilot in command (cause)
  - recovery from bounced landing - improper, pilot in command (cause)
- Gear collapsed, landing - flare/touchdown

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED THAT WHILE PERFORMING HIS LANDING FLARE THE AIRSPEED WAS EXCESSIVE AND THE AIRCRAFT BALLOONED. THE AIRCRAFT THEN TOUCHED DOWN AND BOUNCED. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN AGAIN HARD AND THE LANDING GEAR SEPARATED, AT WHICH TIME THE AIRCRAFT SLID OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND CAME TO REST.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930306006119A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930306006119A), Mar 6, 1993: Amtrdk DYKEDELTAJD2, Sebastian, FL, Substantial damage. Bounced and porpoised on first landing on initial flight. Impact caused landing gear to fail.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
