## Probable cause

INACCURATE FUEL CONSUMPTION CALCULATIONS, RESULTING IN FUEL EXHAUSTION.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - nonmechanical, cruise - normal
  - fluid,fuel - exhaustion
  - fuel consumption calculations - inaccurate, pilot in command (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- In flight collision with object, descent - emergency
  - object - tree(s)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled
  - terrain condition - grass

## Analysis

DURING THE THIRD AND FINAL LEG OF THE CROSS-COUNTRY FLT, DURING CRUISE FLT, THE ENG QUIT DUE TO FUEL EXHAUSTION. DURING THE EMERGENCY DESCENT FOR THE FORCED LANDING, THE ACFT COLLIDED WITH TREES, THEN THE GROUND. REVIEW OF THE ACFT RECORDS INDICATE THAT THE ACFT HAD BEEN OPERATED FOR 4.6 HRS SINCE FUELING. THE FUEL TANKS WERE DRAINED WHICH REVEALED THAT THEY CONTAINED ABOUT 1 GALLON OF FUEL.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
