## Probable cause

A RUPTURED CENTER BELLOWS SEAL IN THE FUEL SERVO AND/OR A PLUGGED FUEL INJECTOR DUE TO CONTAMINATION (RUST) FROM THE FUEL SERVO. FACTORS RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT WERE: IMPROPER SERVICING OF THE AIRCRAFT, AND PEOPLE AND TREES IN THE EMERGENCY LANDING AREA.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - mech failure/malf, takeoff - initial climb
  - fuel system,fuel control - contamination (cause)
  - maintenance,service of aircraft/equipment - improper (contributing factor)
  - fuel system,injector - blocked(partial) (cause)
  - fuel system,fuel control - ruptured (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- In flight collision with object, landing - flare/touchdown
  - object - other person (contributing factor)
  - object - tree(s) (contributing factor)

## Analysis

SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO RUN ROUGH AND LOSE POWER. THE PILOT INITIATED A FORCED LANDING ON A GOLF COURSE, BUT INTENTIONALLY LANDED IN TREES TO AVOID GOLFERS ON THE COURSE. EXAMINATION OF THE ENGINE REVEALED THAT THE FUEL SERVO CENTER BELLOWS SEAL WAS RUPTURED, WHICH WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A RICH MIXTURE. ALSO, THE FUEL SERVO UNIT WAS CONTAMINATED WITH RUST MATERIAL, AND ONE FUEL INJECTOR WAS PLUGGED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930529015529A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930529015529A), May 29, 1993: Beech A2324, Laurel, MS, Substantial damage. Lost partial power and rough engine. Landed in trees on golf course. Rust in fuel. Fuel servo seal had ruptured.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
