## Probable cause

the pilot's failure to remain clear of the known high point on runway.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, takeoff
  - airport facilities,runway/landing area condition - uneven (contributing factor)
  - clearance - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - porpoise/pilot-induced oscillation - encountered, pilot in command
- Nose over, takeoff

## Analysis

The pilot stated that during the takeoff roll from the private unimproved airstrip the airplane struck a known high spot on the runway. The nose of the airplane pitched downward and started to porpoise. The airplane went through a bean field, over a ditch, veered to the right, and nosed over coming to rest inverted.

## Factual narrative

On August 7, 1996, about 0700 central daylight time, a Grumman G-164A, N665U, registered to Masters Flying Service, operating as a 14 CFR Part 137 aerial application flight, crashed on takeoff from a private unimproved strip in the vicinity of Marks, Mississippi. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed. The airplane sustained substantial damage. The commercial pilot reported no injuries. From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
