## Analysis

THE PURPOSE OF THE FLIGHT WAS TO TAKE A FAMILY FRIEND ON A NIGHT AIRPLANE RIDE TO SEE THE LIGHTS OF A NEIGHBORING CITY. THE TAKEOFF WAS MADE FROM A SOFT WET GRASS RUNWAY WITH AN AIRCRAFT EXCEEDING THE MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE GROSS WEIGHT AND THE CENTER OF GRAVITY BEHIND THE AFT CG LIMITS. THE PASSENGERS STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT ACCELERATED VERY SLOWLY AND WHEN IT LEFT THE GROUND THE STALL WARNING HORN STARTED TO SOUND. GOING UPSLOPE THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK TREES AND DROPPED TO THE GROUND.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19820605025149A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19820605025149A), Jun 5, 1982: Cessna 170B, Tama, IA, Destroyed. Pilot attempted takeoff from wet sod field with overloaded aircraft. Stalled and crashed off end of runway.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
