## Analysis

A STUDENT PLT IN LEFT SEAT MADE THE TAKEOFF USING 10 DEG FLAPS. AT ABOUT 50 FT AGL PASSING OVER THE DEPARTURE END OF THERWY, THE PIC NOTICED THE ACFT WAS SINKING & TOOK THE CONTROLS. THE ACFT IMPACTED TREES AS THE PIC WAS AVOIDING POWER LINES. THE FLAPS WERE FOUND IN THE UP POSITION. DENSITY ALTITUDE WAS 5,000 FT. EXAMINATION OF THE ENG REVEALED THAT THE RIGHT MAGNETO WAS NOT FIRING. HOWEVER, TESTS INDICATED THIS WOULD RESULT IN A POWER LOSS OF ONLY 3.4%.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19830809043679A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19830809043679A), Aug 9, 1983: Cessna 172M, Minden, NE, Substantial damage. Aircraft collided with trees during takeoff after making left turn to avoid wires. Density altitude 5000 feet.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
