## Probable cause

TOTAL FAILURE OF THE ENGINE'S MASTER CONNECTING ROD.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(partial) - mech failure/malf, maneuvering - aerial application
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- Nose over, landing

## Analysis

WHILE CONDUCTING AN AERIAL APPLICATION OPERATION, THE COMMERCIAL PILOT SAID THAT THE ENGINE FAILED. AN EMERGENCY LANDING WAS ATTEMPTED IN A SOFT, MUDDY FARM FIELD RESULTING IN A NOSE OVER. POST ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE ENGINE'S MASTER CONNECTING ROD HAD FAILED.

## Other investigations on N5336 (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW91DPG03](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW91DPG03), Apr 2, 1991: Grumman G-164A (N5336), Earle, AR, substantial damage. Probable cause: A POWER LOSS FOR UNDETRMINED REASONS. A FACTOR WAS THE MUDDY/SOFT TERRAIN IN WHICH THE FORCED LANDING WAS PERFORMED.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
