## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL DUE TO INADEQUATE COMPENSATION FOR WIND CONDITIONS.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - weather condition - crosswind (contributing factor)
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - ground loop/swerve - inadvertent, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - ditch
- Nose over, landing - roll

## Analysis

THE COMMERCIAL PILOT SAID THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL DURING A LANDING WITH A CROSSWIND. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE AIRCRAFT VEERED OFF THE RUNWAY, COLLIDED WITH A DITCH AND NOSED OVER.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900526020329A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900526020329A), May 26, 1990: Scwzer G164A, Morton, AR, Substantial damage. Unable maintain directional control landing in crosswind. Exited runway. Hit ditch. Nosed over.

## Other investigations on N6636Q (2)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW92DPG12](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW92DPG12), Aug 10, 1992: Grumman G-164A (N6636Q), Mc Crory, AR, substantial damage. Probable cause: THE PILOTS FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL.
