## Probable cause

FAILURE OF THE ENGINE BLOWER(SUPERCHARGER). RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT WAS THE SOFT/WET TERRAIN, WHERE THE FORCED LANDING WAS PERFORMED.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - mech failure/malf, maneuvering - aerial application
  - eng assembly,blower/impeller/integral supercharger - failure,total (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
  - load jettison - performed, pilot in command
- In flight collision with terrain/water, landing
  - terrain condition - wet (contributing factor)
  - terrain condition - soft (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE COMMERCIAL PLT SAID THAT WHILE EN ROUTE TO THE FIELD TO BE TREATED, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. AN EMERGENCY LNDG WAS MADE IN A SOFT, WET, FARM FIELD, WHICH RESULTED IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE ACFT. POST-ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE ENGINE DRIVEN SUPERCHARGER HAD FAILED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900614021239A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900614021239A), Jun 14, 1990: Ayres S2RR1340REST, Tilton, AR, Substantial damage. En route to spray field, engine quit. Landed soft wet field. Engine driven supercharer failed.

## Other investigations on N8421V (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN12LA357](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN12LA357), May 23, 2012: Rockwell International S-2R (N8421V), Howard, SD, substantial damage. Probable cause: A fractured fabricated aluminum oil line, which resulted in oil exhaustion followed by a forced landing.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
