## Probable cause

FAILURE OF THE ENGINE DRIVEN BLOWER ASSEMBLY. A FACTOR WAS THE LACK OF SUITABLE TERRAIN FOR THE FORCED LANDING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(partial) - mech failure/malf, takeoff - initial climb
  - eng assembly,blower/impeller/integral supercharger - failure,total (cause)
  - emergency procedure - performed, pilot in command
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- Nose over, landing
  - terrain condition - none suitable (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE COMMERCIAL PLT SAID THAT SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF, THE ENGINE FAILED, DURING AN AERIAL APPLICATION OPERATION. AN EMERGENY LDG WAS ATTEMPTED, IN A RICE FIELD, WHICH RESULTED IN A NOSE OVER. POST ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE CAUSE OF THE LOSS OF POWER TO BE AN ENGINE BLOWER FAILURE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900627023909A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900627023909A), Jun 27, 1990: Scwzer G164A, Swifton, AR, Substantial damage. Engine failed on climbout. Nosed over on hard forced landing. Engine blower had failed.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
