## Probable cause

THE UNDETERMINED LOSS OF ENGINE POWER, AND THE PILOT'S POOR AIRCRAFT HANDLING DURING THE RESULTANT FORCED LANDING.

## Sequence of events

- Forced landing, landing - flare/touchdown
- In flight collision with terrain/water, landing - flare/touchdown
  - terrain condition - crop

## Analysis

THE PILOT REPORTED THAT ABOUT 5 MINUTES AFTER HIS DEPARTURE, THE AIRPLANE'S ENGINE QUIT AND HE MADE A FORCED LANDING IN AN ALFALFA FIELD. THE POST-ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION FAILED TO REVEAL THE CAUSE OF THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19870705038519A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19870705038519A), Jul 5, 1987: Amtrat FALCONXP, Wallingford, CT, Substantial damage. Pilot reported engine lost power. Crash landed in an alfalfa field. No engine defects found.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
