## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S INADEQUATE ACTION AFTER ENCOUNTERING TAILWIND CONDITIONS DURING LANDING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Overrun, landing - roll
  - weather condition - tailwind (contributing factor)
  - remedial action - inadequate, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)

## Analysis

DURING THE APPROACH THE WIND SHIFTED TO A TAILWIND. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED NORMALLY BUT THE CFI WAS UNABLE TO STOP WITHIN THE CONFINES OF THE RUNWAY AND RAN OFF THE END.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Incident 19890413007889I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19890413007889I), Apr 13, 1989: Piper PA28151, Matawan, NY, Minor damage. Overshot runway and ran off departure end of runway into a ditch and trees.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
