## Probable cause

THE FAILURE OF THE NOSE GEAR, WHICH FAILED TO RETRACT WITH THE MAIN LANDING GEAR AFTER TAKEOFF; THE GEAR WAS OBSERVED TO BE MISALIGNED, AND COLLAPSED DURING THE AIRCRAFT'S TOUCHDOWN.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Airframe/component/system failure/malfunction, takeoff - initial climb
  - landing gear,nose gear - failure,total (cause)
- Nose gear collapsed, landing - flare/touchdown

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED THAT WHEN HE RETRACTED THE LANDING GEAR AFTER TAKEOFF, HE DID NOT GET A 'NOSE GEAR UP' INDICATION. THE GEAR WAS CYCLED AND GROUND OBSERVERS REPORTED THAT THE NOSE GEAR APPEARED TO HAVE 'ROTATED OUT OF PROPER ORIENTATION.' THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED UPON TOUCHDOWN. THE CAUSE OF THE NOSE GEAR MALFUNCTION WAS NOT DETERMINED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19891028043579A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19891028043579A), Oct 28, 1989: Namer T28B, Barre/Barree Pl, MA, Substantial damage. Nose gear failed to retract on takeoff. Appeared disconnected. Damaged wing spar intentionaly landing on overrun.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
