## Probable cause

AN OFF AIRPORT LANDING IN UNSUITABLE TERRAIN FOLLOWING A POWER LOSS DUE TO A DELAMINATED CEET DUCT BETWEEN THE AIR INTAKE SCREEN AND CARBURETOR AIR BOX.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - mech failure/malf, takeoff - initial climb
  - induction air ducting - delamination (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- In flight collision with object, descent - emergency
  - object - tree(s) (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE CESSNA 177B EXPERIENCED A POWER LOSS DURING TAKEOFF AND SETTLED INTO TREES AS THE PILOT MADE A FORCED LANDING. THE FAA REPORTED THAT THE CEET DUCT BETWEEN THE AIR INTAKE SCREEN AND CARBURETOR AIRBOX HAD BECOME DELAMINATED ON THE INSIDE AND HAD COLLAPSED, CUTTING OFF AIRFLOW TO THE ENGINE.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
