## Probable cause

IMPROPER PLANNING/DECISION BY THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR (CFI). RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT WAS THE CFI'S LACK OF EXPERIENCE AS AN INSTRUCTOR.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, takeoff - aborted
  - planning/decision - improper, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)
  - lack of total experience, pilot in command(cfi) (contributing factor)
  - terrain condition - rough/uneven
  - aborted takeoff - performed, pilot in command(cfi)

## Analysis

THE INSTRUCTOR (CFI) & STUDENT WERE PERFORMING MAX PERFORMANCE TAKEOFFS. JUST AFTER LIFTOFF, THE CFI DECIDED THE AIRCRAFT WOULD NOT CLEAR THE TREES AT THE AIRPORT BOUNDARY. HE ABORTED THE TAKEOFF AND LANDED BACK ONTO THE RUNWAY WITH ABOUT A QUARTER OF THE RUNWAY REMAINING. THE AIRCRAFT SKIDDED OFF THE END AND INTO A PILE OF ROCKS. INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT REVEALED NO DISCREPANCIES WITH THE AIRCRAFT PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. THE CFI HAD ONLY 32 HOURS AS AN INSTRUCTOR.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
