## Probable cause

THE ACCIDENT WAS A INFLIGHT COLLISION WITH AN VEHICLE WHILE THE AIRPLANE WAS ON FINAL APPROACH FOR A LANDING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, approach - vfr pattern - final approach
  - airport facilities, runway marking - unavailable (contributing factor)
  - proper glidepath - not maintained, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)
  - object - vehicle (contributing factor)
  - clearance - inadequate, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)

## Analysis

THE CFI SAID SHE WAS DEMONSTRATING AN LANDING ON RUNWAY 19 WHEN THE AIRPLANE STRUCK AN UNIDENTIFIED VEHICLE WITH ITS NOSE WHEEL SHEARING THE NOSEWHEEL OFF. A GO AROUND WAS MADE AND THE CFI DIVERTED TO THE DEPARTURE AIRPORT FOR LANDING. THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD MARKINGS (240 FEET) ON THE RUNWAY WERE NOT VISIBLE DUE TO RECENT RUNWAY RESURFACING AND THE RUNWAY STARTS APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET FROM THE ROAD. THE INVESTIGATION WAS UNABLE TO SUBSTANTIATE A VEHICLE STRIKE BY THE AIRPLANE AND THERE ARE NO KNOWN WITNESSES TO THE ACCIDENT.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900608022519A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900608022519A), Jun 8, 1990: Cessna 152, Lincoln Park, NJ, Substantial damage. Struck a vehicle on road 20FT from runway. Unable see displaced threshold markings.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
