## Probable cause

AN IMPACT WITH THE GROUND FOLLOWING AN IMPROPERLY EXECUTED ROLL WITH INSUFFICIENT ALTITUDE FOR RECOVERY. FACTORS RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT WERE IMPROPER USE OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS BY THE PILOT.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, maneuvering
  - in-flight planning/decision - improper, pilot in command (contributing factor)

  - aerobatics - improper, pilot in command (cause)
  - altitude - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled
  - remedial action - not possible, pilot in command
  - terrain condition - runway

## Analysis

THE PILOT WAS PERFORMING AT AN AIRSHOW AND MADE A ROLL TO THE LEFT IMMEDIATELY AFTER TAKEOFF. WHILE INVERTED THE AIRPLANE STARTED TO LOOSE ALTITUDE AND CHANGED DIRECTION TO THE RIGHT FROM THE ORIGINAL FLIGHT PATH. THE ROLL CONTINUED ON THE NEW HEADING AND THE AIRPLANE IMPACTED ON A TAXIWAY IN A LEVEL ATTITUDE. THE UPPER LEFT WING AND LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED. NO PROBLEMS WERE FOUND WITH THE ENGINE OR AIRFRAME. WHEN THE AIRPLANE DEVIATED FROM THE ROLL, THERE WAS INSUFFICIENT ALTITUDE FOR RECOVERY.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900630022969A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900630022969A), Jun 30, 1990: Boeing A75L3, Groton - New Lo, CT, Destroyed, 1 fatal. Developed sink rate on roll after takeoff. Had rolled level prior to crashing on taxiway. Wind was highly variable.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
