## Probable cause

A HARD LANDING DUE TO THE PILOT STALLING THE AIRPLANE DURING THE LANDING FLARE. CONTRIBUTING TO THIS ACCIDENT WAS GUSTY WIND CONDITIONS.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight encounter with weather, landing - flare/touchdown
  - weather condition - gusts (contributing factor)
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - flare - improper, pilot in command (cause)
  - stall - inadvertent, pilot in command (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE FLIGHT WAS ON AN IFR APPROACH TO RUNWAY 22, BROKE OUT OF THE CLOUDS AND LEVELED OFF AT 300 FEET. THE PILOT SAID THAT WHEN THE AIRPLANE WAS ABOUT 20 TO 30 FEET ABOVE THE RUNWAY, IT ENCOUNTERED A VIOLENT WIND GUST AND CAME DOWN HARD ON THE MAIN LANDING GEAR.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900715025769A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900715025769A), Jul 15, 1990: Cessna 310R, Hyannis, MA, Substantial damage. Leveled off for landing and dropped to runway. Blamed windshear. No wind velocity reported.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
